Ants are social insects that live mainly outside but can enter one’s home looking for various food sources due to their ability to feed on practically every kind of food. Their most common source of food from homes/sheltered structures comes from foods containing sweets or proteins. 

Other common sighting areas around homes are in garbage cans, pet bowls, bird feeders, trailing on electrical wires, dirty gutters, and wood piles.   

 

Ants are divided into two groups based on nesting preferences; wall-void nesting and in the ground nesting. They have three body regions known as the head, thorax, and abdomen.
